After recounting the score tallies from Operation: Instant Justice, Matt Belgrove has determined that the final score as originally announced after the game ended was incorrect.  In fact the final scores added up to:

Scotland Won The Stirling Shield

This year’s England Vs Scotland Stirling Airsoft game was a hard fought battle and one of the closest games we’ve ever held.

After England’s victory last year the Scots were determined to win the Stirling Shield for their country and the English were just as determined to get their country’s name on the Shield for the second year running.

The Scottish Team’s Commanders worked hard to get their team working together in this year’s game.

Like all Stirling Airsoft games at Catterick the teams scored points by securing certain buildings across the site at particular times as well as locating and maintaining control of moveable objectives like money or weapons caches.

The teams were very closely matched throughout the game with the points lead changing hands several times during the game.

Finally, with EndEx looming, the English Team delivered their moveable objectives and scored enough points to tip the lead back in their favour. but weren’t able to pull back quite enough points to tip the lead back in their favour.

The game ended with the score:

England 1002 – Scotland 981

England 964 – Scotland 1000

England won the Stirling Shield for the second year in a row with the narrowest points margin we’ve ever had in a Stirling Airsoft game.  With England’s name engraved on the shield once more it will spend another year on display in Airsoft Skirmish’s stall at Stirling events.

Scotland won the Stirling Shield and will have their name engraved upon the Shield which will now go to be put on display at Landwarrior Airsoft’s Showroom in Scotland.

The 2 I/C of Team Scotland, Scott Allan from Landwarrior Airsoft sent us this message to pass on to everyone involved with Op: Instant Justice.

On behalf of the Scottish team players I would like to extend my thanks to all the event organisers and the marshals who made the event as great as it was.

Our team this year was better organised, better prepared and more motivated. The results showed this throughout the weekend and even when we lost the lead we clawed it back.

We are confident that next year it will be our name on the trophy!

Everyone here at Stirling Airsoft would like to echo Scott’s sentiments.  Op: Instant Justice was a great game and we’re pleased to see how much everybody enjoyed it.

The friendly rivalry between England and Scotland never turned unfriendly and the whole game was played in the best of spirits by all involved.

Plans are already in place for next year’s Stirling Shield game, Op: Anvil, to be held at Catterick in the first weekend of December.  We’ll just have to wait and see whether England can win the Shield three years in a row or if Scotland’s confidence and determination will pay off for them in 2010. We’ll have to wait and see whether England can win the Stirling Shield back from the Scots or if Scotland can make it two year’s in a row.

After England’s victory in last year’s game, Op: Silent Eye, this year’s game is sure to be another hard fought battle as the Scots, lead once again by Scott Allen from Landwarrior Airsoft, try to get their county’s name on the Stirling Shield.

Op: Silent Eye was one of the hardest fought airsoft games Stirling Airsoft have ever hosted and everyone involved is looking forward to Op: Instant Justice being just as competitive.

As with last year’s game the winning side will have their county’s name engrave upon the Stirling Shield and if Scotland win the Shield will go to be put on display at Landwarrior Airsoft’s showroom, while if England retain the title the Shield will be held by Airsoft Skirmish, who will have the Stirling Shield on display in their booth at Op: Instant Justice this weekend.

In addition to the two games at Copehill Down we’ll also have all our usual Airsoft Training Days at Stoneleigh along with plenty of airsoft games at Catterick and Combat Missions at Great Blackhill in Herefordshire.

You might also want to make special note of the Operation: Barracuda combat mission on September 25th and 26th, which will be taking place in Worcester and will feature three helicopters that will be transporting and inserting players into the combat zone during the mission.

A few people have raised concerns that there are currently no games in Spain listed on the calendar for next year.  After the success of games like BlackHawk Down in Spain earlier this year there are a lot of people who are looking forward to getting another chance to go and play out there, either as a return visit or for the first time and we know there are plenty of our Spanish friends wanting to see us come back as well.

We will be holding more airsoft games in Spain in 2010 but at the moment we don’t have any confirmed dates for when those games will be happening so we haven’t been able to put anything up on the calendar just yet.  Rest assured that as soon as we do have definite dates for next year’s games in Spain we will update the calendar and post announcements about it here on the Blog and on our Twitter and Facebook profiles as well.

It’s worth pointing out that Stirling Airsoft was not the subject of the report, but rather the Team was there to provide background action and demonstrations during the report.

Please bear in mind that BBC iPlayer is only available inside the UK and that shows are only made available on there for a limited period after their original broadcast date.  If you’re reading this post after November 16th 2009 the chances are that the video of that episode will no longer be available.

This isn’t the first time that members of the Stirling Team have taken part in filming for TV shows.  Over the years Team members have been involved with a number of different documentaries and TV shows, such as SAS: The Real Story and Chris Ryan’s Terror Alert on Sky One.

The SAS: The Real Story program is shown from time to time on the Discovery Channel.  I haven’t been able to find it in the listings for the next few weeks (if you do know when it’ll next be on TV please let us know in the comments) but if you’re really interested you can buy the DVD from Amazon.co.uk.

For the first time ever at Catterick we’re holding a real-time hostage rescue mission.

If you’re familiar with Stirling’s usual airsoft games at Catterick you’ll know that the site’s got a huge variety of buildings available ranging from standard semi-detached and detached houses, through to the large hotel complex and the 5-storey tower block.  These buildings are great for All-Out-War games, pitting a hundred or more players against each other across the sprawling urban airsoft site, but now we’re using the site for a real-time hostage rescue combat mission.

Players who’ve been to our Combat Mission games, like the upcoming Op: Atlas mission, at our Great Blackhill Farm site in Herefordshire will be more used to the way that Op: Overwatch will be run.

Most of Saturday daytime will be spent training with Stirling’s highly experienced Instructors, running through hostage rescue and CQB skills training to help players build up the necessary skillsets to carry out the coming mission.

After breaking for dinner players, in the role of 22 SAS, will receive the call to attend a hostage situation in a North Yorkshire town.

From this point on the mission will unfold in real-time throughout the night as players are briefed on the situation, conduct close target recces, get involved in negotions with the hostage-takers and prepare immediate action and strategic plans to resolve the hostage situation.

Players will rotate through the various roles required during the operation though the night, taking it in turns to man observation posts, get involved in mission planning and negotiations, remain on standby for the call to immediate action if it becomes necessary and to rest.

This is not the standard “run and gun” action of a typical airsoft skirmish game, but rather this requires players to put themselves in the shoes of real Special Forces operators as they plan and prepare to try to successfully resolve a hostage siege situation with the minimum of civilian casualties.  It may not be to everyone’s tastes but those players who have taken part in hostage rescue missions like this at Stirling Airsoft’s other sites in the past have thoroughly enjoyed the change of pace and the opportunity to experience more in depth tactical airsoft than normal games usually allow.

Op: Overwatch takes place on the weekend of November 7th and 8th.  Details can be found on the Op: Overwatch page of the main Stirling Airsoft site.

The weekend after Op: Overwatch the team will be in action once more for the Op: Atlas combat mission at the Great Blackhill Farm site in Herefordshire.

Taking the familiar BlackHawk Down game format of US Rangers and Delta Force fighting their way out of hostile territory in Mogadishu, the game was taken to a whole new level of realism thanks in large part to the site in Spain.

The sand covered streets and dusty, run down buildings at the Spanish site served as a perfect substitute for downtown Mogadishu.  The only thing missing was actual BlackHawk helicopters, but you can’t have everything.

Rangers on the move

Players fought through the night, with reports of tense firefights as a squad of Rangers found themselves trapped in a house, low on ammo and surrounded by skinnies attacking the building from all sides.

Sabre Troop

Unlike the regular Stirling Airsoft Games which anyone can book to attend, this game was only open to members of the Stirling Team and gave us an opportunity to pit Sabre and Zulu Troops against each other in a battle for supremacy.

The game was closely fought with a lot of back and forth between the two teams as Zulu took the advantage early on before Sabre clawed back territory later in the game.  Both teams launched assaults on the other’s Command Posts and as Zulu Team Leader, Zulu Daddy, put it, “Both teams dug deep and unleashed hell.  Result was one top weekend.”  With mission objectives won and lost on both sides neither team took a clear lead over the other and in the end the game was declared a draw with the result too close to call in favour of either Sabre or Zulu.
